Our Team and Partners

Mission

Our mission is to help a community grow. For us, growth is a holistic concept. It is not just about tackling health, the economy, or disability in isolated silos, but rather understanding their interconnectedness and finding solutions based on collective consensus. We use ethnography to describe the community’s reality and visit each household to identify reliable partners. Based on this data and in collaboration with community partners, we strive to develop projects that improve health, finances, education, and innovation, while reducing marginalization—all while staying authentically connected to the community’s reality and relying on the Almighty’s help.

Vision

Fostering comprehensive growth that facilitates a community to tackle both internal and external challenges, encourages innovation, and cultivates a sense of responsibility towards others.

Precepts for Community Growth

  1. Ownership and Management
The community must take ownership of and manage its affairs with the organization primarily as facilitators. When determining a project or process, both the community and the organization will need to agree through a dialectical reasoning process.
  2. Empowerment
The organization should focus on enabling residents to identify their own challenges and take collective action to address them, rather than perpetuating dependence on external agencies—including the organization itself.
  3. Sustainability
The effects of change must be sustained for a prolonged period as defined by the community. It should generate new resources, and their management will be maintained through the promotion of self-accountability.
  4. Interpersonal Networks and Values
Interpersonal networks, community wisdom, and values are significant yet largely untapped resources. Understanding the priorities of community residents is criticalucial for facilitating collective and collaborative activities.
  5. Partnership
The foundation will act as a “partner” instead of an “employer,” fostering processes that promote shared ownership and mutual accountability.
  6. Empirical Understanding
An empirical, systematic, and ethnographic understanding of the community is essential to help contextualize actions and their consequences.
  7. Conflict Mitigation
Any introduction of resources carries the potential to create marginalization and conflict; therefore, processes and arrangements must be in place to mitigate these issues.
  8. Democratic Leadership
Identifying trusted leaders of these arrangements should be a democratic process that involves obtaining consent from each resident.

Our Partners

The success of the Sontolon Foundation’s health and development initiatives in Khoriapara depends on meaningful partnerships built on trust, shared values, and long-term commitment.

Bangladesh Medical Association of North America – Louisiana Chapter (BMANA-LA):

Provides technical and professional guidance for our health programs, including physician mentorship, telemedicine support, and strategic input on chronic disease management.

UCEP Bangladesh:

Collaborates with the Foundation to provide skill development and vocational training for community members, particularly women. Through this partnership, local residents receive hands-on training in sewing and tailoring, enabling them to participate in the Foundation’s Mini-Garments Initiative, which supports the financial sustainability of our health programs.

Rajshahi Medical College:

Supports the Foundation by providing clinical expertise, facilitating health camps, and assisting in medical training for community health workers. Their collaboration enhances the quality of healthcare services in Khoriapara, particularly in managing chronic conditions and promoting preventive health practices.

These partnerships are central to the Foundation’s vision of blending local participation with professional collaboration—creating a model where global and national expertise supports community ownership. Together, we aim to strengthen health systems, improve livelihoods, and promote education in ways that are self-sustaining, inclusive, and deeply rooted in the values of the people we serve.
